Ben Grant for School Board

At-Large

Schools are the lifeblood of a city. We need to keep doing the hard work to provide a great education for every young person in Portland.

I am running for the School Board because we need to continue the work of making our schools more equitable and closing the achievement gaps.

Portland Public School are at a critical moment. In the last few years, the tide has started to turn with respect to equity and achievement in our schools. We can’t afford to see that momentum stalled now. There is too much at stake for the health of our community and the future of so many.

I am running for the School Board with one goal in mind: provide an excellent education for every child in Portland. Our City has an incredible opportunity to ensure the growth and education our children deserve. Portland has been that attracting people from all over the world to live and start a family here for decades now. We need to ensure that, during this time of growth, every one of our families believes their children will thrive in Portland Schools.

Priorities

  1. Continue to advance the Portland Promise.

  2. Insist on accountability: we need investment in equity, but also we need to show results in closing the achievement gaps.

  3. Full implementation of pre-K, including transportation and pre-/after-care.

  4. Ensure Portland’s teachers and educators are supported fully with fair contracts - especially after all they have been through during the pandemic.

  5. Protect neighborhood elementary schools.

  6. Ensure a top tier replacement for Superintendent Botana when he leaves in two years.

  7. Reverse the school population decline.

Your support will help make Portland a better place.
